Before the funeral, the Nowina Konopka family asked that in lieu of flowers people could give donations to the Department of Oncology-Hematology at the Children’s Hospital in Olsztyn, Poland where Sophie was originally diagnosed.  They chose this hospital because they had witnessed the dire need for equipment. This request was also sent out through many prayer chains and the response was so very generous.  They received donations from many people across America and from Poland.  Some checks were quite large; two businesses each gave $1,000.00.  They received over $13,000.00.  That money  was given to the Childrens Hospital and provided the needed infusion pumps and other equipment for many sick children.

 

The Sophie Memorial Fund was created to disperse the profits from the sale of  her book and CDs .  It has   donated almost $10,000 to many  worthy causes,  including the Children's Hospital in Olsztyn, Poland.   Sophie  is asking us to provide the funds to  assist  parents who want to be  at the hospital at night with their sick children,  but can't afford to.  You see, in Poland,  parents must pay to stay the night with their child.  Sophie was in the hospital for more than 20 months. Can you imagine what that would cost?   Can you imagine your  sick and dying child sleeping alone in a strange place because you can't afford to be there?

 

 

On December 6, 2013 a check for $1,000.00 USD  was issued from the

"Sophie Nowina Konopa Memorial Fund"

to the City of Hope Hospital in Olsztyn, Poland.

The fund has donated $1,400.00 thus far.

 

Because of wonderful people like you, many sick and dying children

will not be alone overnight during the Christmas holidays
